⭐️⭐️⭐️½ I was immediately drawn into His Little Witness by Kindra Cress. One thing I really appreciated was how quickly the story got moving. Rather than spending several chapters slowly introducing the characters and unpacking their backstories, the book dropped me right into the action—and I enjoyed that. The pacing kept me turning the pages, and the story moved along at a satisfying pace. The characters were easy to like, and I found myself invested in what was happening and wanting to see how everything would unfold. The one thing that pulled me out of the story at times was the repetition of certain phrases and sayings. A few were used frequently enough that I started noticing them, and it occasionally took me out of the moment. There were also several instances where I felt the characters’ feelings or traits could have been conveyed more naturally through their actions and interactions rather than being repeatedly explained to the reader. For me, a little more showing and a little less telling would have made the story feel even more immersive. Overall, though, I enjoyed my time with this book. It grabbed my attention quickly, kept the story moving, and gave me characters I genuinely enjoyed following. 3.5 stars from me…. But had to go with 4 here as 1/2 stars aren’t allowed. Thank you to the author, publisher and Pen Pinery for the opportunity to read this book as an ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own. |
