About This Romance ARC

3.6 • 5

He was sent to make me disappear. He wasn't supposed to want me for himself.
I recorded a murder. One shake video, one VIP room I should never have served, one man who looked straight into my phone and smiled, and now the most powerful men in the city want me erased before sunrise.

Then he found me first.

Silas doesn't ask. He doesn't comfort. He shows up like a blade in a tailored shirt and tells me I have ten seconds to choose: walk away and die, or come with him and lose every piece of the life I used to have. Cold-blooded, ruthlessly efficient, and absolutely not allowed to touch me, he's the man Blackwater sends when there's nothing left to save.

But he touches me anyway..

Every safehouse gets burned. Every alias gets cracked. Someone inside his own organization is feeding me to the wolves, and Silas just promised he'd torch Blackwater to the ground before he let them take me.

God help me, because I want to watch him do it.

A dark, possessive, slow-burn romantic suspense for readers who like their heroes lethal, their heroines sharp-tongued, and their tension thick enough to cut. Forced proximity. One bed (eventually). A man who was supposed to be untouchable until he met her. HIS LITTLE WITNESS is Book 1 in the Blackwater series.

Reader note:Steamy, explicit, and intense. Contains on-page violence, themes of stalking and surveillance, and a hero whose protective instincts run very, very dark.

I am giving this five stars without hesitation. Kindra Cress knows exactly what she is doing. The setup is classic dark romance: a waitress witnesses something she should not, and a dangerous man decides she now belongs to him. The execution is tight, confident, and frequently very hot.

Silas is properly possessive. Wren is sharp enough to understand the cost of what she is choosing and still chooses it anyway. The tension holds, the dual POV is clean, and when the story decides to get physical, it does not look away.

There is a particular scene that stayed with me. After the restraint finally snaps:
--------------
"I dropped to my knees, dragging her leggings and underwear down with me. She stepped out of them, legs trembling. I spread her thighs with my hands, possessive and unapologetic, and buried my mouth between them without warning.

One long, slow lick from entrance to clit.

She gasped, her hips jerking.

Two fingers slid deep inside her in one smooth glide. I curled them forward, hooking against that rough, sensitive patch that always made her lose control.

She clenched instantly.

She rode my face with desperate, rocking thrusts of her hips, smearing her arousal across my chin, my lips, and the bridge of my nose."
--------------

That is the kind of focused, unapologetic heat I read this genre for. The possessiveness is not decorative. It is the point.

I write under a ridiculous pen name so I can chase escalating smut and increasingly unhinged scenarios without anyone expecting literary restraint. Kindra Cress works a tighter, more controlled version of the same hunger, and she does it well. I enjoyed every minute of it.

Highly recommended if you like your dark romance competent, heated, and unwilling to apologize for the claim it is making. (note that I received this ARC through Pen Pinery.)

⭐️⭐️⭐️½

I was immediately drawn into His Little Witness by Kindra Cress. One thing I really appreciated was how quickly the story got moving. Rather than spending several chapters slowly introducing the characters and unpacking their backstories, the book dropped me right into the actio…
