The Midnight Summer

by JoAnna Uriarte

Full Review by WiggyMarie

This novel features a coming of age story with a young woman who hasn't committed to college yet, and the ghost who she falls in love with. The story has a lot of heart, but the writing has a staccato rhythm that was hard to lose myself in. The passage below is an example taken from the first few pages of the book:

"Janice turned in her seat for a better look.

Interesting.

She decided to investigate later.

She had always been so curious. She knew one day it would get her into trouble."

The category includes "young adult" and "new adult", which do ask for accessible language. I think this book might be best for preteens who like supernatural elements in their stories. I feel that I would have loved this as an 8-12 year old!
