Book Review Offsite

While I don’t think I was quite the target audience for this book (it reads as very young adult), I still enjoyed this cute little story. I liked the unusual premise - girl meets boy via a late-night prank call that turns into a telephone friendship. I also enjoyed reading about cultures that I know little about.
The book is well-written with few grammatical errors and flowed pretty well. The first half of the book was written from Yanisa’s point of view, while the second part, after they meet in real life, is told from Ash’s perspective. I think alternating chapters might have been better, because I really wanted to see things from Yannie’s perspective once they were interacting.
I did become frustrated with the immaturity of both characters and how they interacted with each other as well as their friends and families, but this could also be due to unfamiliarity with their cultural norms.
Three and a half stars, rounded up.
Many thanks to the author and Pen Pinery for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book. This is my honest and unbiased review.

Suffering from burnout at her corporate job and forced to take a mental health break, Ana returns to the small Italian beach town where she once spent an unforgettable summer. While there, she reconnects not only with an old love, but also herself and her nearly-forgotten passion for life.
This was a really great story. The author did a wonderful job of making this Italian town come to life. The descriptions of the town, the people, and the food, both in the past and present day, made me want to book a trip to Italy.
The romance between Ana and Luca was so sweet (and fairly spicy!). The flashbacks to Ana’s first time in Traele added depth and nuance to how they first fell in love and how it went so very wrong.

Thank you so much to Pen Pinery and the author for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book. I am voluntarily providing a honest review.

I love magical realism and Just Her Holiday Type is a perfect example of magical realism done really well!
Plum has lost her holiday spirit and her belief in happily ever afters. Which would be bad enough for anyone, but when your job is writing scripts for holiday romance films, it’s disastrous! In a last ditch effort to save her career, Plum’s agent sends her to a small town known for its Christmas traditions. But the town from her agent’s childhood memories has all but disappeared.
Can Plum, with the help of her overworked landlord and a magical typewriter, rekindle the town’s holiday spirit and maybe her own as well?

I really loved Plum! She was funny and dramatic and so sweet! Ethan was perfect as a man burdened with responsibility and the feeling that he could never quite measure up. Zach was adorable with his over-the-top gestures of love!

This was such a fun holiday book and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a magical holiday romance!
