This is the first in a series and a new hockey team that will have fans cheering for them on the side especially for the Captain Declan Rourke. I have to say one minute this guy can run cold and then there are times where he's just well so sweet. The only thing I wanted more of his story was Elena. I know she's a physical therapist but the medical jargon about his shoulder was just way over the top. To me she could have been more warmth and less stiff around the team and people. Every time I thought she would break free she just went all clinical again. There was so much about Declan, really got to know him but not so much on her. She is definitely good at her job and has a secret in her past but working on Declan, making him better is somewhat her last chance. All in all it was okay just enough chemistry between seemed all one side on Declan. One thing for sure he is a good Captain and loved that all the pain he is suffering in silence is so his team doesn't see weakness in him but strength. Looking forward to see what H.A. Laine will do in the next book in the series. |

Ben at his best
(5 )
Okay now were picking up with this series and have to say Ben is actually my favorite. I loved that he is quiet yet in someways he's like a Dad looking for everybody even the rookies. Then we have a journalist, Renee Lavoie, by all counts she's really good at her job so good that Ben may be the one guy she might not be able to write. I loved seeing these two get together due to the way that though she may be tough in words with Ben she is really a softie. Seeing Ben finally reveal who he really is and what makes him tick will make you love him more. It's not just the way they are together but we little things that makes him so sweet like saying off the record even bringing little things she lies is just so unlike him yet love able. All in all these two were great together and seeing Ben really be himself is just truly unique due to the fact that he really hides himself good. Another thing is that it's not Ben but we see the whole gang and boy seeing them on the ice is wow. H.A. Laine really did a beautiful job showing us these two and just seeing Ben come out of his shell is like a flower blooming. Loved it. |

I love fake dating romances and boy H.A. Laine really did Carter and Gwen beautiful. In previous books, we see glimpses of Carter Knox and boy in many ways he really doesn't show the real Carter Knox until he meets Gwen. Now Gwen is a tough nut to crack but one thing for sure Carter definitely flusters her in a good way. These two have a way of bringing out all their secrets and fears yet in a way it brings them closer. Not only do we see Gwen getting to know the real Carter but in a way we really find out why Carter is the way he s but in a good way. One thing for sure though Gwen has her heart really guarded it takes a awesome guy like Carter to bring down those walls of hers. The chemistry between Carter and Gwen may seem all work for the head honchos yet the behind the scenes are the steamiest, funniest and just mind blowing. Loved it and can't wait to see who in the team will be next. H.A. Laine once again not only shows us each player but their real selves outside of the ice really seeing what makes this team really work. "I received an eBook copy from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own." |

There's nothing like a fire captain and a damsel in distress to really heat up the page. We have Jake Bower, long time fellow crusher for years towards one Harlow Green finally seeing hope at the end of the tunnel so to speak. Then we have the girl that got away, Harlow Green, coming back to the hometown she dreads coming back. Everything in her knows people have talked about her and know about her marriage yet Jake is the one person that is really real with her. Being with him she is starting to see that no all men are like her ex and in some way she is starting to feel something again. Now Dani Skye really shows us a side of Harlow nobody has really seen and even Jake is impressed by her determination to really get into the life she wants. Jake, however, seemed to me a little scared and by all means he has good reasons. As a firefighter he has seen things no one should see yet when it comes to Harlow he is scared of really the what ifs. More of what if he can't be there for her when she needs him. Like all stories that involve firefighters Jake is one man that sure needs all the help he can. I love seeing that he is so organized when it comes to his love life but when it comes to him admitting his vulnerability and real feels about people he rescues well he definitely needs help. All in all it was okay but felt it was more about Harlowe, yes what she went through in her marriage is not easy but felt there could have been more about Jake as well. This is the beginning of a new series by Dani Skye and definitely can see this town more and it's people especially that Victorian mansion and it's wicked way. "I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily." |
