In a country where football ( soccer) is a national obsession, where practically everyone lives and breathes it, this book provides a brief glimpse into the world of Brazilian women's professional football and the lives of two women whose whole life revolves around it.
The two MCs, Marina and Dani train under the same coach but in different teams. They dribble and maneuver around each other on the field and around their feelings. Feelings which as yet are unnamed and undefined.
The writing style may be off-putting for some especially those not used to reading literary literature and also when there are liberal scatterings of Brazilian Portuguese drizzled all around and can be an inconvenience to those who know nothing of the language.
There wasn't any real romance per se, since for much of the book, the feelings are mainly unwanted, uncomfortable and incomprehensible which slowly gives way to hoping, yearning and wanting.
The overall pacing was a slow progression just like the quiet lives lived in an unnamed city somewhere probably in northeast Brazil.
