I received this book as an ARC through Pen Pinery.

I chose this book for the premise - lone woman, forced proximity, a healer patching up a wounded commander in a haunted forest - and the world delivered.

It has good atmosphere and I cared about the leads. The dialogue felt a bit stiff to me, and some of the descriptions ended up confusing. Still, I wanted to keep reading, and the world made it worth it.

If you like atmospheric fantasy romance with sensual spice, give it a shot.

I really enjoyed this one! Plum and Ethan were both extremely likable, and Pine Tree was exactly the kind of quaint little town that makes you want to pack your bags and move there. I was invested enough in the story that I actually got irritated when real life interrupted my reading. Always a good sign!

I especially liked the way the story plays with the idea of the “perfect” romantic hero versus a real, imperfect person. Give me the real man every time. Perfect gets boring. The magical typewriter premise was fun, the romance worked for me, and the whole book had the cozy, charming feel I wanted from it.

A really fun read!
