This account covers nine days in October in the Scottish Highlands. It has been reconstructed from notes, a recorder that was left running longer than intended, and the account of a woman named Mairi who has been watching the loch from the same window for sixty years and was willing to discuss what she has observed.
Marcus arrived in the village with a dead rental car, a piece to write, and the fixed intention of leaving in ten days. The piece was about Nessie tourism. It was going to be good. The entity in the loch agreed to speak on the record on the third night. He did not agree to be called Nessie.
After nine nights on a dock, after conversations he initially kept a recorder running for and eventually did not, after the loch ran warm for three consecutive nights in a way that the local meteorological station was unable to account for... the story ended up being something completely different.
What Loch Ness Keeps: A Completely True Account is the first book in the Cryptid Nights series. Each book is a standalone. Each one covers a location the author has visited, a person who agreed to have their account recorded, and something that was there.
Nine nights. The loch does what it likes.
