Online communities are important because writing is hard and sometimes conversation with people who understand the struggle is exactly what one needs to get over the hump and keep writing. We've found that Discord is a great platform to meet new writers, share your work and make friends. Below are some Discord servers we recommend.

Bookdun 

One of the larger writing communities on Discord and one of the most active. The community is centered around a six-month writing challenge that ends with a first draft. Every six-months they sort writers into three competitive teams with various gamifications to help achieve the writing goal. Their motto is "We want to start books, and finish books, edit books and publish books."

The Writing Hub

This Discord server is where you'll find a close-knit community of writers, artists and creators who want to support each other. It has double the members of Bookdun and just as active.

Emerald Library

If you're a fanfiction writer this is the original writing community of fandoms. They focus on community choice and smaller mini-communities. It's a great discord for writers, beta readers, editors and people who have a common interest.
